How do I measure my daytime resting heart rate?

Resting heart rate is both a part of the AQ algorithm, which tells you the health benefits of your activity, and the Fitness Calculator, which gives you an overview of your body's health status today.

Both of these tools are based on resting heart rate measurements taken during the day, with research participants sitting still in a chair for at least five minutes before their heart rate was measured by healthcare professionals. To ensure the accuracy of our AQ and fitness calculations, you should not enter the lowest measurement your heart rate monitor has recorded overnight. We recommend measuring resting heart rate in one of these two ways:

  1. You can use a heart rate monitor, sit completely still for five minutes, and read the lowest heart rate measurement.
  2. You can sit completely still for five minutes, find your pulse with two fingers on your carotid artery, and count the number of heartbeats in 30 seconds. Double the result to find your resting heart rate.
